7 Reasons to Take Fish Oil Supplements
Mar 24, 2023What’s the big deal with fish oil supplements?
If you've been paying attention in the health industry, it feels like everyone is pushing supplements all the freaking time. It's exhausting!
And how to know what's right for you? Well, that’s another story.
Today we want to talk about fish oil because we think it is actually a highly underrated supplement.
What Are Fish Oil Supplements
Fish oil supplements are dietary supplements made from the oil of fatty fish, such as salmon, sardines, mackerel, and anchovies.
Fish oil is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which are essential for maintaining overall health and well-being.
Your body can’t produce Omega-3 fatty acids, so you have to get them through your diet or from a supplement.
Fish oil supplements usually come in a gel capsule and are generally considered safe for most people when taken as directed.
Why Take Fish Oil Supplements
While we don’t recommend our clients take boatloads of supplements, certain ones, such as fish oil supplements, can be beneficial.
Here are 7 reasons why we love fish oil:
- Taking fish oil can reduce inflammation and inflammatory responses.
- There are signs it can improve insulin sensitivity.
- It can significantly reduce triglycerides (a type of fat that circulates in your blood).
- Fish oil has been shown to help with depression in those with higher inflammation (EPA specifically).
- Improved IQ in children whose mothers supplemented during pregnancy and nursing.
- It may provide an increase in HDL (aka good cholesterol).
- It plays a role in brain function and memory.
This simple addition to your routine could be so beneficial to various aspects of your health.
Most people don't get enough Omega-3s through their diet alone, which is why supplementation can come in handy.
This doesn't mean you shouldn't try to get your Omega-3s through quality food sources, though!
